At 1770 metres this the highest of the Mahu Whenua traverse and has spectacular views of the Upper Shotover, Mount Aspiring and other peaks of the Southern Alps. The Turk is located in a small basin just below the ridge and at this altitude is quite exposed to the weather. There are three main ways to access it:
  • From either the Motatapu Saddle via Siberia Peak. Allow 4 hours
  • From the Mount Saint Just Turk via Mount Hyde. Allow 4 hours
  • From Stockyard Creek via the west ridge of Mount Hyde. This is a 1600 metre climb over open country. Allow 7 hours
